Church of Santa Maria di Capodarco, Piazza della Repubblica 14, 63900, Capodarco, Province of Fermo, Fermano, Fm, Italy.
Capodarco is one of the four districts of Fermo, the story says that already in 1100 there was a fortress built at the height of Monte Secco: from some documents it appears the Castrum Montis Sicchi, with its general council that was summoned to Fermo on occasions of great strategies that governed the city. In the territory, there was also a strong religious presence, so much so that the owners of the area made a donation of land for the construction of a building for the care of the spirit entrusted to the Franciscan Friars. The religious place was appreciated by the nobility of Fermo: it was said that …… .. “not far from Fermo there is a forest site, called Capo d'Arco donated by the Canons to the Religion: the air is good and it is a place to do life withdrawn ”. The Convent must have had some importance given that in 1553 there was held a Chapter of the friars of St. Francis of Hermitage. The same structure housed the Church of Santa Maria di Capodarco, of small dimensions. The polyptych by Vittore Crivelli is currently kept in the church. Contrada Capodarco was a land of farmers and artisans; of greater importance are the crivellai and the canestrai, a great economic resource together with the commercial one that is more developed in the coastal area. The generous participation of the people of Capodarco in the Cavalcade of the Assumption suggests that the industriousness brought to life by the Franciscan Friars in the years of the plague continues to be part of the culture of the Capodarchesi.
